About me

Greetings all, welcome to my blog, my name is Adeeb, I'm an international Graphic Design student at INTI. I came from Mauritius, a small tropical island close by Madagascar.

I was very interested in studying Graphic Design because I felt as if it bridges the gap between art and design, my two favorite subject from the Cambridge A level, which I sit for in Mauritius itself. I've always love art due to the flexibility it offers to one to express himself, and of course due to the beauty of art itself. I also enjoy Design as a subject because of the logical and critical thinking it encourages one to adopt and of course because of the creativity behind it.

I am personally more directed towards social, spiritual and emotional theme, however I really enjoy experimenting and exploring new horizon, so I'd like to be unbounded by specific themes. My goal is to achieve in design itself while keeping an open mindedness and a lot of flexibility in my future works.

I honestly can't really say who was my inspiration to study graphic design, I've always enjoy listening to music and thereby I enjoy the album art of the bands I enjoy, one graphic designer that I enjoy might possibly be Machine Room Design, for his works for various artist in the metal and industrial music scene.

Here's one of his work for the band Bornless Fire. As you can see in his work, it's really filled with special effects giving it some sort of sci-fi look and fantastic appeal, sometimes it can even be mysterious as well, I really enjoy these unique touches in his work, it brings a lot of live even though the theme might be a quite dark one. The sharpness on the main subject in his composition is another interesting feature, there's a lot of emphasis on the textures of the environment, both the subject, the ground and the space all around.

This album is called Arcanum, which is derived from the word arcana which means secret, and as you can see, with what he did with the colors; black surrounding the environment, the white light behind the subject, the blue light from the subject's eyes and around, and moreover with the unusual statue and the silhouette of the man below and the glow around him, it does give that sensation of a mystery. Furthermore with what he did with the colors, your attention is directly drawn towards the subject. By looking at the direction of the smoke you can also see like a motion, which brings some sort of energetic feel to the piece.

The following is one of my personal projects, I did a few, including painting, other photography. The reason why I've chosen this one is because it's a project where I tried to give a more conceptual approach to photography and also because the raw image itself was very satisfying with some sharpness on the hand and a defocus effect on all that's behind. I've afterward used some open source image editing software to accentuate this effect.

What I tried to represent with this image was like the influence of sin on the man. I've entitled it The Hand of Filth (stylized as Thy Hand Ov Filth), it basically depicts the evil lending his hand like a proposal somehow for the man to embrace the evil. The symbol on the hand is the alchemical symbol of sulfur, which represent hell, as stated in the bible, sulfur is an element that originates from hell. The whole image is a grayscale image except when it comes to the hands which has some red blood stains on it, to add more emphasis on the blood. In various cultures blood is considered as something dirty, and lastly there's the inverted pentagram on the hand which again represents the negative qualities of the left hand path

One might as well notice the paint on my face, it's just so that it doesn't look odd in the composition. On top of that I've chosen my right hand to be the hand of filth, it was just so that it appeal as the left side on the final image, this might be a mistake on my side however as it had to be on the left hand, it depends on the interpretation of the person watching it. One might simply focus on the image, that the hand is found on the left side, another might discuss that it had to be on the left hand so that more emphasis is placed on the left hand path.
