Analyzing more practitioners

I started analyzing some more work by other practitioners whom I was suggested to look at to further find a photographic style.

This is a few pieces from Anthony Goicolea who usually disguise himself into different character and by the aid of software assemble it into a single piece. By doing so, his work give a fantasy, but deranged appeal. He also uses this same method to address some taboo concept, regarding young children in their teenagehood, gender and identity.

Nan Goldin was another photographer I was recommended to look at. The first piece is a portrait of 2 famous celebrities, however, they don't look so happy as they were supposed to look. This therefore captures a rare realistic moment that reveal the back scene of being a celebrity. The second pic actually captures a rare moment in Goldin's married life where it shows a bit of tension between them. Last image actually relates to domestic violence which was taken after Nan was beaten by her husband.

What I enjoy with her works is the simplicity of the images yet they are very conceptual. It also made me realized that every piece don't have to be too perfect, since usually I try to create a good layout in the environment and further enhance it with photoshop.

Cindy Sherman was another photographer who self shot herself and talks about identity through disguises. The first image is a shot whereby she's wearing a quite expensive cloth but she herself don't look neat and very feminine. This piece actually relates back to the role of women in the society, sort of revealing the truth behind their rich garments. The next piece is sort of a difference between the standards of society. The last piece is almost the same as the first one but focused more towards aging and how women are trying to represent themselves as elegant as they can but there is a different truth to it. She actually uses the aid of photoshop as well to change her features and to add herself in the various locations.

Another photographer I studied was Larry Clark and this was one of the most intriguing piece that I found about him since he stated that they were actually on drug on that day when his friend shot himself in his laps unintentionally. Like it's such a rare occasion for a photography and it kinda depicts the craziness of life. I think it was quite unique.
