We’ve been asked to make a map of our home country on a piece of paper as a homework while adding some information to it, like the best places we’ve been or even the worst.

Here’s my map, I’ve used only drawings to express myself. Some place you will notice a particular symbol that resemble as a Christian cross, it is actually an Egyptian symbol which represent life. So for me the places I’ve marked with it are the places where I live or the places where my closest relatives lives. The symbol which is in a hemisphere which actually looks like simply a circle on here due to the lack of details, it represents my home. Surrounding it are all my hobbies, music, both listening and playing, paint, read, tv and also my little brother and my pet the kitten.

Below it there’s 2 places one would notice, written sbsc and saro, these were my secondary schools, at sbsc, there only the image of a certificate, because did only up to o level there, then I sat for a level, and completed my college years at saro, the graduation hat is just to represent that I completed my college years there.

The breaking walls represent the fun that I had, breaking the walls like being unbounded, free to explore and enjoy. On the top, there the illustration of wings, which again represent freedom, it also represent another area where I had fun but a lower degree of fun. There’s a yellow line to represent where that place is located, and there’s a ‘U’ above it, because that place was a mall called ‘Super U’.

Close to my house there’s another illustration of breaking walls, but it’s written ‘B’, ‘S’ and ‘J’ which also represent 3 malls which was closed to each other called, ‘Bagatelle’, ‘Shoprite’ and ‘Jumbo’.

Then there’s the circular symbol with the dots and the gaps in between like the top view of people holding their hands in a circular form, which for me symbolizes unity. These places were the gathering points for my family and relatives.

There’re various areas where there’s a figure swimming or a pool which mean literally some site where I love swimming. Furthermore, there that specific area where there’s a figure going down from a pole to another to represent an amazing zipline area.

The car with the brown lines are together, they represent one activity a lot of Mauritian use to do. They will take from one coast to another and so on, at some beaches we will have lunch, other places we will swim, a whole day, travelling at different coasts. And the mountains with the flag represents the mountains that I climb in Mauritius.

Finally, the spiky ball at the swimming area in the west represent a memory of me and my friends, where we all stepped on an urchin. That was pretty hilarious, but it hasn’t prevent us from enjoying our trip. We had to make a stop over at the dispensary to get rid of the tip of the spike from our foot but it was memorable.

Our class activity next day was to merge our maps and see the relationship in between each of them, then make one map that will include all the similar information.

I had to modify my map and add the traffic and food for they were among the one that was repeating itself a lot among these 4 countries.

Again we allow ourselves to mess around with the illustration, one of our friends saw that each country had the shape of a food, therefore we turned each country into a food and we named our project ‘Memories Buffet’.
