Mirror Maze by Es Devlin

In partnership with Fifth Sense, a collaboration between i-D magazine and Chanel this project was built in the form of a psychological architecture. THe installation relates to identity and emotions. It evoke the sensation of falling, here related as the scent, which thereby connects us to some forgotten instincts.

To further improve the feel within this environment, even though it's a personal project, Chanel created a unique perfume for specifically for this project.

I real enjoy this project since it’s a highly elaborated stage design, with a lot of reflection and message behind each part of it. It is for most, from my opinion an emotional journey, that was aimed to make us realize certain part of ourselves that is left forgotten.

CopenHill power plant by Bjarke Ingels

Hedonistic sustainability means to be sustainable while being able to enjoy life. Since most people think of sustainability as something stressful such as a limitation where we have to leave behind our old ways, Bjarke came with this new concept of adding a distraction with his architectural designs, such as the one he did in Copehagen for a power plant which was aiming toward sustainability. The power plant takes care of extracting energy, providing with energy and even takes care of the waste disposal. Since the infrastructure was huge, he decided to add a ski park on top of the building thereby promoting leisure along with the knowledge that the ski park of the youth is also a sustainable energy provider which helps them to gain recognition as well.

The interesting point in the park is that he also took into consideration the fact that there are some freestyle skiers who will need some slides and stuffs for their stunts.

I do think that the hedonistic concept is an interesting direction because we shouldn’t forget the fact that we human also seek leisure and pleasure. We don’t only need to live, especially the youth whom need to distract themselves for various reasons such as preventing them from getting involve in illegal activities, help them to overcome their burdens at school, for their health among others.

Period Equity by Paula Scher

One of the project that I enjoyed from her was the Period Equity project which was an organization that will use advertising methods to remove the inequality that there is on women products in the US, mostly for the tampoons since in the US there’s a lot of taxes on tampoons. It's a nice responsible design piece.

Yellow Room by Olafur Elliason

I really enjoy this project since it’s so simple, nothing but an empty room lighten by mono frequency yellow lights. The effect of this is that it takes away the colors and this project was a way to show us how to see the world differently by taking away our own bodily colors and show us how everything isn’t exactly what we see. It is another one of these projects where the audience interacts with the design but executed in a different manner.

29 Rooms x Kate Moross SHOW YOUR PRIDE

This was quite interesting. The look of the installation and the neon light. I quite enjoy the appeal of it, it was basically a design for the LGBT. Nothing very triggering in this one. It was just a representation that one should love whomever he or she meets without any shame, there's quite a fantasy feel to it due to the neon light.

Timothy Goodman and Moo Meetings - Kill Creativity

This project is simply a notebook that in fact does look professional as one to be used in an office during a meeting, but it has some bright pages in between with popping typography. The typographies has some encouraging messages that encourages creativity. Timothy himself stated how he despised meetings but have to attend them since he has his own business so he made his own solution in partnership with Moo.

I do think that the project is intriguing especially cause it’s not an image spreading a message it’s a notebook that can suddenly give you a boost during a boring meeting. However, I did nothing the possibility of a flaw with this design since the typography can also act as a distraction during a meeting rather than an energetic punch.

Jessica Walsh 40 Days Dating Experiment in partnership with Timothy Goodman

Thinking about the issues we face in life while dating Jessica and Timothy decided to conduct an experiment using the design techniques to try and get better at it.

They did a book that includes their each day themes and challenges, expressing it using typography. Apparently the experiment didn’t lead them so far but it’s still a very interesting approach with includes observations, recordings and finally expression in the form of visuals in this case since it’s about design.

Bio-Degradable Shoes by Christiaan Maats

He designed a sustainable shoe that is fully bio-degradable and which won’t contribute to the ever growing pollution of the world. He used his knowledge from his past as a student whereby he follows the purpose of the product, the culture of the world and the emotional attraction we have with it. However, he also add a believe system, which is the sustainable way of designing a product. I find this project really great to be honest, since it’s based on a simple context pollution caused by shoes and came up with a workable solution.

Stefan Sagmeister’s Happy show/ Happy film

This project is one of the most genius design project I’ve ever seen. Consisting of a lot of research from books, psychologist and lecturers, Stefan Sagmeister explored the various way how we can achieve happiness with the free most common methods, meditation, drugs and therapy. The most interesting part about this project was how experimental it was, in a way that in the end he wasn’t even able to find happiness. I wouldn’t say that’s it’s a fail since, now we know that there are many missing criteria thereby we still have to research more on the subject.

His approach towards the project was very interesting, consisting of research of course, observation on himself, execution of the various methodologies he found from his research, a record on his emotions as a graph and as a video journal and at the end the two outcomes were a show, where he represented all his findings in a visual, sometime interactive form along side a movie which sort of engulf his whole journey including the occasional issues and challenges on the way. And he specified that living his life was like making a movie thereby the necessity of a movie as his medium for the project.

Airbnb – Until We All Belong

Yet another project related to the LGBT, but this one is just one that I believe all graphic designers should be aware of since the execution was just so perfect. The story behind it was that in Australia they were still not accepting the same sex marriages so Airbnb which focuses on helping you to find the right house for you, a house that defines you, they decided to show how their customers matters to them by addressing the issue and supporting the cause. There were still several campaigns going on to help solving the issue, but the ‘Until We All Belong’ campaign, consisting of a simple ring available for free on Ebay help to boost the government decision. This was a great illustration of how a commercial campaign can be powerful.
