The Beginning

Data Analysis

After expanding the subject and generating some questions, appropriate methods were chosen to proceed with the research. It was decided that the audience will be engaged to get their opinion on the subject from over the world through a survey shared on social medias. The main focus would be teenagers and young adults and adults, all ranging from 17 to 35 years old, since they’re within a period of change at this age. The opinion of a few elders which will be reachable via social medias will be welcomed as well since a comparison would be important between the generations. It would be also necessary to have at least one interview from these different group; a spiritual practitioner, a spiritual believer but who doesn’t practice, a monk or priest, one who is much closer to the art and finally a person skeptical to the subject. By this mean, accurate data will be obtained to better judge the usefulness of spirituality within our modern society.

Anchor 1

He was a man in his 30’s with 15 years of experience with his practice. He explained how it was hard to begin in his spiritual practice which was a quite deep discipline since he learnt everything by himself. He explained a few of the questions obtain from certain answers that were not so clear from the survey. Certain spiritual practitioner states they had fear as a result of their practice. He responded that one may face fear in certain situation where he realizes how the practice defies the conventional knowledge. This is also the reason why not everyone is open to this topic as well he said. He did talk a lot about the disadvantages but he also mentioned that his practice was different and a simple meditation might be easier to enhance someone’s life. He explain how he was able to manage some emotional distress better when he started practicing. He states how he would be able to see the stress growing and he will ultimately know how to calm himself down and avoid a bad situation.

From the questions generated, more questions were generated and divided among the survey questionnaire and the questions for the interviews with the different group of people. From there, began the research process. The survey was shared across social media spiritual groups and college students. There’s been 78 responses from people across the world but mainly from Asia.

The sample was then divided into categories to identify possible interviewees. 4 persons were identified each belonging to a group stated previously. An email was sent to them however only a spiritual practitioner from Slovakia responded. The interview with him did revealed a lot of interesting information though.

After filtering the data, looking at it while considering different groups of people and different age groups the following was discovered:

·       There’s more female who are interested in spirituality

·       There’s more adult practitioners compared to youngsters

·       The Abrahamic believers are open to other spiritual practices

·       Even the wealthy people accept spirituality in some occasions

·       There are some youngsters who are interested in spirituality but not as many practitioners as the adults

·       The main reason why people approach spirituality is to find peace

·       Those who practice claims they found it

·       Not all practitioners are happy within their practices

A few important notes be considered.

There's been 78 responses in all and most of them were from Asia. However, upon filtering the data, there's been a few information missing for the 'non spiritual believer', therefore it was difficult to rate and compare their level of satisfaction. The only numbers with which I was able to work with was the 'spiritual practitioners'. As I proceeded with the number of 'spiritual practitioners' I found out that the majority of them were from Mauritius and a few Asians. This is therefore a disclaimer for the observations made and the data that will be represented unto the infographic.

I have indeed went through each of the practitioners one by one and inspects each of their choices. After which I created a profile of the important things to rate about them; Gender, Sex, Ethnicity, Religion, Practice and finally The level of their happiness measured on a scale of 1-5 depending on their responses from the survey.

The reason for these 6 information in each one of their profiles was to show that whatever ethnicity or religion they were born in they may have different practices.
