I did some research regarding animals and their meanings and I came across this website that has it all.

Since each animals has like 4 to 6 different meanings, I decided to give each meaning a rating from 1 to 5. I added the total and classified the animals in order.

There are a few meaning such as curiosity which does relate much to happiness and peace of mind, therefore, I gave it a rating of 2, furthermore it can also be interpreted as something negative as well. I did similarly to the other meanings that doesn't relate to happiness.

I decided to work on the dog first, idk... maybe it's just because I'm more familiar with it. But basically I took the most interesting elements that perhaps we don't pay much attention to as you can see in the image above.

And I came up with these sketches. I tried also to make it look abstract as I can just because a totem was meant to be a form of abstract art.

I combined some of the ideas and I got this design, I'm more happy with this one since you can tell it's a dog therefore, like bringing the work to a wider audience they won't discuss about it.

I got a special permission to go to school to cut the design using the laser cutting machine there. This part was about correcting the lines after transferring the design to the Laser cutting software, which is very much like ai but it recognizes only lines.

This is a scrap material just to try it out

This one is my material

We then proceeded to the machine and let it do it's think after doing the adjustments and tryouts.

Here's the final after sanding it and varnishing it. The dark colored wood is the scrap piece but honestly the design looks better on the scrap piece rather than on the one I chose.

I was told to make a more refined planning of my design so I had to think of the measurements. Decided that the opening will be 5cm and the largest part will be 10 cm in diameter. And the whole thing will be 12cm height.

The easiest way to represent the data for me was to use the height of the pot. After some calculations this is what I got.

However, I also wanted to try a different route, therefore I took the smallest diameter, the 5cm and the largest the 10cm and I found the circumference using a technical drawing method I learnt in high school.

Then I put it up in Illustrator, my digital, precise sketchbook xD.

So here, there's the largest and smallest circumference with the height, basically the largest and smallest cylinders of the pot somehow....

Here's my calculations based on the surface area of the largest and smallest cylinders and the height of the pot.

This is the data when plotted unto the largest and the smallest cylinder's surface areas.

I combined the largest and the smallest data and I got the following shape.

My idea was to place it unto the pot as such but, that's moment where I realized that I didn't took into consideration of the height, but that's a brief look of how it will look if I do it this way.

Btw, these are all the design I'm planning to do and each follow the same size, 5cm to the largest being 10cm.

That's also the moment I realized I took the data from the general part of the data and therefore all the calculation was in vain xD

I should actually have taken the data from the Infographic itself cuz the data was filtered and analyzed there while the other one wasn't.

As for the reviews that I got, it was to try and come up with more experimentation with the pot and a much cleaner design. I was also told to refine the wavy design on the Totem cuz it's been faded by the laser cut. I was also told to work with my calculations more and try taking more that 2 circumference to obtain a more precise finish. I was also told that making the opening of the pot 5cm might not allow the totem to get in since the neck is much smaller so I'll have to work this out as well.
