I did some digging into teenage pregnancy, at this point it's nothing really official, just some Youtube Videos, so I don't have the APA but I have the starting point somehow.

I researched the causes of teenage pregnancy. I found that there are 3 main reasons in the US but which applies universally:

  1. Shyness in buying condoms

  2. Difficulties to afford these facilities

  3. Being shy about the subject, thus, unaware of the facilities

However, from 1 article I used in my Critical Context, I found that in Malaysia there's also male oppression of the teenager to indulge in sex and the religious taboos that make it even harder for the parents to talk about the subject.

At this point I found 3 solutions:

  1. Encouraging women to fight the oppression against them

  2. Encourage parents to fight the taboos and talk about it at home, I also found some notes to why this is actually useful

  3. Lastly, it's to create a discursive, yet functional advertising work consisting of sharing condoms

I then generated different ideas, based on each of these solutions.

1. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

This copyrighting is based on the concept of empowering Malaysian teenagers to fight male oppression in Malaysia. I may have to re-look into the copywriting during the process but basically, this is the idea.

I was thinking of executing it in different forms such as advertising, infographics, exhibition among a few others.

If you follow the mindmap for this particular section, I've actually gone out of the subject with my examples. Some are related more to creating awareness. But it was a brainstorming anyway so it's the part to make the brain work and be messy is fine at this point.

2. "Your Voice will Save Your Child"

This copywriting is more towards the parents. It will be based on the cultural norm of Malaysia, whereby they consider their reputation very well in a way while at the same time challenging the other cultural norm where they don't talk about sex to their children.

It's more towards educating the parents, so I believe an advertising approach will be ideal.

However, I wasn't able to develop this one too well.

3. A way of exposing the youth to the various contraceptives available.

I didn't have a copywriting for this one however it eventually was the idea that I was able to develop the most.

It will be based on discursive design, which involves a conceptual product. However, in this case, the conceptual product will be functional as well and the essence in solving the problem.

There are some risks such as it was meant to target the high-schoolers, since they are the more related to this issue. Thus, bringing some controversies such as it's encouraging the youth to have sex.

On the other hand, further research showed that the legal age for women to have sex in Malaysia is 16, thus making it less risky.

However, I was able to create a whole campaign with related methodologies to improve the efficiency of this idea. Such as, having banners and leaflets to further explain the aim of this project. Then there will have to be some strategical placement of these various elements.

I will then have to work on the research to strengthen the efficiency of the idea and the copywriting and whole conceptualization. I will also have to look into halal contraceptives.

This is the second draft of the proposal. I eventually chose to go with the 3rd idea of sharing the contraceptives. The proposal is a lot more completed right now. However, it still lacks the bibliography to support my words at this point which will be what I'll be working on for next week.
