SOI Progress 2 & Grad Show

Grad Show

I started by sketching whatever comes into my mind when I think of the idea of half. The I slowly started relating the sketches to the idea of a company or half cup.

These image based off the idea of half or cooperation served me as references. Some from pinterest, while others from google images.

I also had an idea for an installation which depict the idea of forming part of a cooperation and half. Basically people will be offered with a leaflet that have a weird cut shape, which is actually inspired from a mirror.

In the installation their will be a mirror that will allow the audience to see themselves. The mirror also have a cut from which the audience will be able to align their leaflet to and as they see themselves they will see on the leaflet the typo, we need you while being able to see themselves. This will be a form of interaction with the audience and the design.

I made these 2 gifs based on the sketches I did and the references I had. I just twisted them to make them into a corporation context.

I also created this board which was meant to be the identity for the GradShow. I decided to go for bright colors to represent the positive atmosphere of the concept.

Then I wanted to go with some round text for the headline since it's soft and joyful while for the text, one that still look round but is quite readable and more professional since it will be about getting involve in the professional area.

I allowed myself to have a few more colors specially in the eventuality where there will be an artwork or icon.

Then I tried making shapes that could represent half and I also experimented with the headline to see how I can represent the idea of half.

The design of the circle was actually inspired from a circle divided in 8 parts. Taking out 4 parts out of 8, makes it half but taking this 4 parts in different areas can give a more interesting design

However, the design look too much like the Ben 10 logo 😂😂😂

Thus I ignored this idea.

I then started experimenting with the logo. I tried combining the shape I did with the typo.

Then I the follow where I started experimenting with the font online. I actually preferred the last one in this list but it still seemed to be quite empty.

I did some research as to what I use to for the project. I found out that the lotus is known as a symbol for positivity which is what I'm working for at the moment.

I then found ways to add the idea of a lotus in the design.

For this one I was told that the color scheme should all remain within the same tone, because the yellow and the deep blue are somewhat too saturated to fit the theme. I actually added the saturated blue to have something to create contrast but it's too overpowering within the identity. I was also told that I could have maybe just 2 colors for the identity and not so many.

Then I was told to work on more icons on illustrator to represent the idea. Finally I was told that the design of the logo might be better if it's just a typographic piece.

SOI

We had a few class activity that gave me the opportunity to further build up and strengthen my points for the SOI.

These were eventually the new statements I came up with. Again I made sure I have my resources from various different places.

I actually prepared some additional ones to make sure I have alternatives if I have to eliminate some.

These are some additional website I checked out.

Then I created this one which will serve me as identity or guidelines for the poster that I will have to design.

For the SOI I was told that I found a bit too much statement in the sense that each ones are new ones. I was suggested to combine the statement together and finally keep like 3 main statements while having the other relating or elaborating over these 3 main points.
