In this session we’ve been showed a video about typography and how it is useful for communication, we’ve even been showed a lot of example by the speaker in the video, who was a designer who enjoy experimenting about typography and who did several experiment to prove how a typo can alter emotions in our brain, and other more examples and explanation from our lecturer herself.
Then we were separated into group and each member had a work sheet and each group had a food to taste and we actually had to express the texture and the taste of the food with a typo and everyone had to write the word ‘YUM’.
My group has been given a sort of sweet and sour jelly, on the first square of the work sheet we had to describe the taste of our food, the second we had to draw shapes to represent the taste and feel, on the third we had to research about existing typo that could represent that particular taste and on the final one we had to make our own typography to express ourselves.
I did one and idea and my partner as well did another idea, here is hers. Her idea became a bit spoiled since we placed the molding clay on top of it.
After that each group were given a piece of molding clay (plasticine) to form the typo. Me and my partner we tried to combine our ideas and came out with this typography.
Bubble like to represent how soft and bouncy it was, dots on top to represent the slight roughness it had with the sugar powder on top of it, a white highlight to represent how soft and smooth it felt after the sugar were melted in our mouth, pastel colors to represent the colors of the food and the sweetness, we even tried to add a sort of gummy link to it to represent the gummy feel.
