The Field Trip

On week 7 we had a field trip where we had to explore the eco park in KL and create some typography out of the sensations we felt in the different areas there using the available materials.

Divided in groups, we were given the follow key words to seek for:

  1. 1. Somewhere Playful

  2. 2. Somewhere Peculiar

  3. 3. Somewhere Exasperated

  4. 4. Somewhere Captivating

We were asked to use different words as long as possible.

We went on the bridge at the park and since it had a peaceful environment with a bit of humor to it since we were messing around with each other while wagging the bridge around so we thought that it could be a great representation of fun, and therefore we form this typography onto the bridge itself.

While walking on the bridge we saw an alley, which we took to reach the bridge and we thought that it could be a good spot for ‘Captivating’. So, some of us went down and we made this typography to represent it’s appeal. We didn’t use the word captivating itself for this one, trying to stick to the brief. We also dig the typography on the white rocky alley to give it more sharpness and we also reduce the exposure to a desirable amount from our camera to be sure to make it visible from the height we were.

When we walk back to meet our class for a break we choose the road we walked up for exasperation since we were all annoyed to climb up this damn road. To represent the horrible feel we used the most dirty material available there, the dirt, and we tried to be even more creative with it, we add a piece of rough wood as an underline and it was also to represent how rough walking up this road was and we even had a rope which we though could represent a pulling effect since you feel pulled by gravity walk up the road. We tried to experiment with the rope trying something that goes around the typography to represent a of being bound to it and another where the rope goes down to represent as if it is pulling the typography down. Shooting the typo, we thought that the length of the road should be visible too to give it its concept so we tried a pic from afar.

Then we got the word peculiar, So, we’ve spotted this dried up tree which stood among all other green trees and we thought that it looks pretty odd. So, this time, our first idea was to use a dried leave to write the word queer on it and have a spot through which we would be able to see the dried tree through it. However, it didn’t turned out the way we wanted, but still we manage to get a few experimental pics of the leave with the typo and the tree
